Job Description
The Mission of MIM: The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) enriches our world by collecting, preserving, and making accessible an astonishing variety of musical instruments and performance videos from every country in the world. Position Description: As part of the Creative and Marketing team, the Marketing Specialist will work closely with MIM’s Communications Specialist to help grow attendance for the museum and its educational programming, with one area of focus being adult group tours and experiences. This role is also responsible for the development and daily management of MIM’s social media channels. The Marketing Specialist reports to MIM’s Creative and Marketing Manager.
· Building Awareness & Attendance for MIM
o Maintain and help build hospitality and tourism industry relationships that increase visitation to MIM including visitor bureaus, hotels, destination management companies (DMCs), and more
o Identify and act on unique opportunities that reach new audiences, such as mutually beneficial partnerships with other organizations or influencer collaborations
o Collaborate with education department team members to match adult program offerings to appropriate target audiences (college students through senior citizens) in line with institutional goals and priorities; create and execute strategic outreach plans to reach these audiences and secure group reservations
o Coordinate familiarization (FAM) tours for select audiences such as concierges, travel agents, conference planners, etc., in a timely manner to raise awareness of MIM and various programs; help conduct onsite tours and generate proposals as needed
o Regularly update contacts regarding museum news, programming, or events
o Serve as an exemplary advocate in the community, with donors, museum colleagues, media partners, and key constituents; attend community or networking events on behalf of MIM as needed
o Keep abreast of industry trends both in general marketing and Arizona tourism
· Social Media Management
o Manage MIM’s social media presence and create content calendars for all platforms, including (but not limited to) Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and LinkedIn
o Develop, pitch, and collaborate with other team members on the ideation, creation, and execution of content that aligns with MIM’s brand and supports larger institutional goals, such as increased museum attendance
o Write and schedule social media posts that are optimized for each platform; manage deadlines and contributor approvals
o Report on and monitor social media performance; create recommendations for increased engagement and audience growth based on data
o Monitor and respond to user comments and questions on social media as well as review sites, such as TripAdvisor, Google, and Yelp, direct feedback to appropriate internal teams
· Administrative
o Proactively and regularly tour the museum galleries for content inspiration
o Participate in Creative and Marketing meetings and various cross departmental meetings; execute action items as required
o Provide support for large departmental and institution-wide projects and priorities, as business needs arise
· Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field preferred
· 2+ years of professional social media marketing experience, preferably for a large organization, with demonstrated success in engagement and audience growth strategies
· Proficiency with social media platforms, Sprout Social (or similar social media management software), and Microsoft Office Suite
· Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with a strong interest in storytelling
· Strong organization skills, time management, and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently
· Demonstrated commitment to a high-quality brand and delivering exceptional experience for clients/customers/guests
· Self-starter demonstrating initiative, creativity, flexibility, and resourcefulness; excels in a fast-paced environment
· Commit to high standards of professionalism, quality of work, and confidentiality
· Knowledge and contacts within the greater Phoenix market (CVB’s, AOT, destination management companies, etc.) preferred
· Knowledge of local media outlets preferred
· Positive attitude with a comprehensive understanding and appreciation for story cultivation and business promotion activities; ability to convey MIM’s mission and its value
Other:
• This is a full-time position working on-site at MIM, due to the required in-person collaboration with multiple teams and events
• Position requires desk work as well as time showcasing MIM and attending various events
• Some evening and weekend work may be required due to the nature of community/networking events
