TEMPE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT

TITLE: Network Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide configuration, installation, maintenance, repair, and support of all district owned servers and
support the operation of local and wide area networks. Manage and execute planning, development,
testing, and implementation of projects including but not limited to installation and configuration of user
environments on various platforms, access policies, data storage and backup, and problem determination
and resolution.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. AA and/or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science related studies and/or Computer
Operations (preferred).
2. Two (2) years previous experience with server/network systems (preferred).
3. State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
4. Valid AZ Driver's License.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Manage the implementation of new and ongoing projects, procedures, and installations; set
priorities, coordinate tasks, and monitor progress.
* Install, configure, and maintain LAN servers; manage performance and security.
* Design standard user profiles and privileges in many environments including, but not limited to
network domain, computer labs, servers and workstations.
* Use, manage, maintain MDM solutions; S.S.O. solution; I.A.M. framework.
* Work with multiple hardware and software platforms at the most complex level.
* Assess network performance and recommend upgrades or improvements.
* Monitor systems to optimize performance and to initiate recovery action after system failures.
* Support development of technical standards and application uses and determine hardware and
software needs.
* Resolve network problems and offer technical assistance to users.
* Oversee research and deployment of new operating systems. Coordinate work with applications
and programming area.
* Manage network security including firewall, web/email filtering, and antivirus software.
* Establish and control system access, groups and policies.
* Apply protocols for operation within multi-user IT networks that provide voice and data transmission.
* Manage distribution and retention of data on various storage devices.
* Responsible for the integrity, security and backup of network document storage.
* Apply system updates and replacement of legacy equipment.
* Ensure new directory service technologies are adequately tested and integrated before
implementation.
* Utilize and develop scripts to automate the execution of tasks.
* Assist in the testing of new equipment and systems. * Develop and maintain new and existing documentation; maintain problem resolution logs to identify
trends and recommend solutions.
* Continue professional and personal development, maintaining a high degree of knowledge and
expertise on multiple platforms of existing and emerging technologies through research, training
and contact with outside vendors.
* Attend meetings and participate on committees as assigned.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

* Knowledge of District, Federal and State rules and regulations governing school operations and
software applications
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively
* Skill in utilizing effective verbal or written communication in the performance of all written and oral
communications with end users and other customers
* Skill utilizing customer service techniques in responding to inquiries, requests and complaints
* Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Fast paced environment with multiple deadlines. May work with or near noisy and potentially dangerous
power equipment, and electrical wiring. Exposure to rooms with the temperature maintained at or below
70 degrees. May work varied hours. May be required to telecommute in addition to working onsite.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

May lift, move, push or carry materials, equipment and supplies weighing up to 60 pounds or more.
Generally, performs work in a seated position with repetitive motion and eyestrain through extensive
utilization of computer hardware and software. May work in confined spaces. May be exposed to loud
noises. May work with or near toxic chemicals and fumes.
