DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Paralegal I performs under immediate supervision of the department director or designee in conducting legal
research, preparing documents, reviewing cases, legal memoranda and other legal documents for litigation or in
the legal representation of the Gila River Indian Community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


- Assist in the preparation of of?cial ?lings for litigation in the Gila River Tribal Court, Arizona Courts, Federal
District Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
0 Files court documents both electronically and physically.
0 Conduct legal research, analysis and document production related to the development of legal position of the
Community in litigation and settlement negotiations.
0 Receives and processes documents related to contracts, resolutions, ordinances, reports, and legal opinions as
directed by staff attorneys.
0 Ability to draft and compose correspondence dealing with legal and complex matters.Obtains due diligence materials, such as corporate certi?cates of good standing, real estate and titleinformation, and securities ?lingsFacilitates compliance with civil procedures in accordance with state and federal statute.Assist attorneys in preparing Committee and Council packets.Ability to work with sensitive and/or con?dential documents and information.Organizing and tracking ?les for important transactions or case documents, including pleadings andvoluminous discovery documents; creating and maintaining a case-management database0 Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY:0 Considerable knowledge of law of?ce practices and procedures.
0 Knowledge of and experience in application of the principles of jurisprudence and legal analyst.
0 Knowledge of and experience in conducting legal research.
0 Knowledge of legal terminology.Ability to work both independently and in intensive concert with others.Ability to clearly and succinctly articulate ideas and logical analysis both orally and in writing.Ability and experience with Westlaw or LexisNexis.Ability to review and interpret legal documents, statues, ordinances and cases.Ability to keep work projects organized and prioritize work assignments.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Of?cials,
and the general public.
0 Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Legal Assistant/Paralegal program or a closely
related ?eld; and two (2) years experience involving legal procedures, terminology, legal research and writing
in a legal environment; or any combination of education, training, or experience which demonstrates the ability
to perform the duties of this position.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Paralegal certi?cation through a school approved through the American Bar Association or certi?cation through
the National Association for Legal Assistants is preferred.Some experience working in a law of?ce preferred.
Required to pass a background check.
Required to obtain a Tribal Operators permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving recordfor the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be
submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the application.Non-Supervisory, Salaried Position
