Job Description
The Paralegal I performs under the supervision of the Protective Services Supervising Attorney or designee and
conducts research, prepares legal documents, and assists attorneys with case management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Works closely with attorneys in gathering and preparing confidential legal documents that are sensitive
materials that may be emotionally traumatic and graphic, and maintains statutorily required confidentiality
of all case matters.
Assists with sensitive and moderately complex cases involving child welfare, juvenile offenders, adult in
need of care matters and Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) ligations.
Assists attorneys in preparation of hearings and trials, and ensures completeness and appropriateness of file
documentation.
Files court documents both electronically and physically.
Enters data and tracks statistical information for monthly reports.
Schedules and prioritizes attorney caseload; organizes case files; prepares chronologies, fact summaries, and
witness files.
Coordinates witness and victim interviews.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY: Considerable knowledge of law office practices, terminology and legal procedures.
Knowledge of and experience in application of the principles of jurisprudence and legal analysis.
Knowledge of and experience in conducting legal research.
Ability to prioritize work projects, plan and carry out assignments.
Ability to prepare reports.
Ability to maintain composure while working with individuals in a heightened emotional state under strict
time constraints.
Ability to work both independently and in intensive concert with others.
