Haverford College invites applications for our full-time (at least 37.5 hours per week), exempt, benefits-eligible Payroll Manager opportunity.

Work Location: This position will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, pursuant to the College’s Work Location Policy.
Job Summary
The Payroll Manager is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of exempt monthly and non-exempt bi-weekly payrolls. This individual is the primary liaison with ADP and various state and local agencies, and works closely with the Human Resources Office (HR) and Instructional & Information Technology Services (IITS), as needed. The Manager also is responsible for researching general ledger entries and providing assistance related to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise the Payroll Accountant
- Process monthly and bi-weekly payrolls, which includes validating payroll data, reviewing payroll reports, and distributing payroll checks
- Work closely with various campus offices, especially HR, IITS, and the Provost Offices
- Ensure compliance with applicable payroll policies, procedures, tax laws, and regulations
- Maintain payroll information and directs the collection, calculation, and entry of data
- Determine payroll liabilities by reviewing the calculation of federal, state, and local taxes
- Provide payroll information by answering questions and requests
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new tax laws
- Maximize the use of technology, making recommendations for improvements in the payroll processes
- Review and updates related internal controls and troubleshoots payroll system issues when necessary
- Lead the payroll system testing for Workday; understands and utilize the payroll system to maximize operational efficiency and effectiveness
- Prepare reports, analyses, and correspondence
- Partner with ADP for tax balancing and reporting
- Conduct quarterly balancing and year-end reporting for W2’s
- Perform other duties as assigned
Line of Report: The Payroll Manager reports to the Assistant Vice President, Controller, and Associate Treasurer and oversees the Payroll Accountant.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Seven (7) years of experience in payroll

- Knowledge of and experience with Payroll software systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of payroll taxes, laws, and regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and financial accounting processes and systems
- Resourceful and flexible in using available resources and technology efficiently
- Ability to adapt to technological change
- Effective written, verbal, communication, presentation, and organizational skill
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in the fields of accounting, economics, finance, or management
- Experience with Workday system for Human Resources and Payroll
- Knowledge of payroll tax at the federal and state levels
- Business savvy and superior negotiating skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, specifically advanced Excel
