Job Title: Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner - Cardiology
Reporting Status: Supervising Cardiologist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Physician Assistant (PA) and/or Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Cardiology is a mid-level provider that works in concert with the supervising physician to help provide care for patients in the clinical setting. They attend to the needs of the patient base by addressing questions and concerns around their plan of care. The PA/NP is educated and trained to perform medical treatment and procedures similar to those of a physician. They also assist with the pre/post/peri-operative care of patients during surgical procedures. The PA/NP are able to complete many of the same essential tasks as the cardiologist while operating within their scope of practice and license.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform assigned clinical duties under the general supervision of the cardiologist as part of the patient care team
- Surgical support during cardiovascular procedures including the pre, peri and post-operative follow up
- Review of patient records and EMR documentation as required
- Interview and examination of patients to assist in proper diagnosis / treatment course
- Help interpret diagnostic tests, provide explanation of results and address patient questions / concerns
- Update and review patient plan of care including medication, diet restrictions and physical activity
- Communicate, email, phone or follow up with patient concerns
- Understand when to escalate / partner on emerging patient issues with supervising physician
- Maintain a high level of professional and ethical standards with all job functions
- Promote clinical excellence in the areas of safety, risk and patient satisfaction
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 2+ years of clinical experience (cardiovascular preferred)
- Graduate of an accredited PA / NP program
- Maintain a current unrestricted license / board certification
- Some travel may be required between clinic / surgery locations
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including detail orientation / organization
- Hours and call requirements dictated by patient workload
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- While performing duties of the job, employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers, verbally communicate and have active listening skills with patients/co-workers
- Employee may occasionally lift and/or move equipment/objects up to 25 pounds
- Specific sight abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus are essential
- The noise level of the work environment is usually low to moderate
- Work in the clinic/outpatient surgery center require knowledge of proper safety practices, handling and disposal of hazardous/biological materials and related healthcare environment protocols
