Job Description

Under general supervision, works with end users to purchase materials, equipment, supplies and services. Reviews and analyzes purchase requisitions, plans, organizes and coordinates purchasing activities in accordance with priorities, time limitations and published policies and processes.


Salary Range

$48,000 - $55,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Provides customer service to departments through processing purchasing transactions according to state and federal statutes, policies established by the Arizona Board of Regents and institutional policies and procedures. 
  • Helps customers by examining and analyzing purchase requisitions based on identified departmental needs, completeness, accuracy of information and documentation required for compliance. Responsible for processing purchase requisitions, creating and issuing purchase orders to suppliers. 
  • Will determine method for processing based on dollar amount, timeliness required, existing open contracts, and/or competitive bidding. 
  • On an as needed basis, may perform or support formal and informal competitive bidding pursuant to University needs and policies. 
  • Interprets and communicates purchasing procedures and policies to departments, vendors and staff. 
  • Resolves routine purchasing problems between department and vendor. 
  • Uses Microsoft Office applications, online financial system, and internal database systems. 
  • Reviews and approves vendor master and use supplier database management tools. 
  • Verify pricing against contractual agreements and initiate action to resolve discrepancies. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in SCM, Business, or Accounting or other relevant field, OR four years of related experience OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.”


Desired Qualifications

  • If bachelors degree is in unrelated field, 2 years relevant experience is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Basic knowledge of the responsibilities and tasks performed by procurement departments. 
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts and approaches.
  • Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of materials, products, services, commodities and basic supply chain management concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office. 
  • Evidence of verbal and written communications. 
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. 
  • Ability to collect, organize, synthesize and analyze data.
  • Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment. 
  • Ability to lead by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institutions sustainability programs.


Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. 
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. 
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
