Job Description

The Biodesign Center for Mechanisms of Evolution (CME) is seeking a motivated program manager to join a groundbreaking team to advance the mission and vision of an NSF-funded Biological Integration Institute (BII) focused on the Mechanisms of Cellular Evolution. 


This individual will coordinate academic activities of the BII, and help to ensure that the goals and objectives of the program are accomplished in accordance with priorities, time limitations, funding limitations or other specifications. In this position, you will work closely and creatively with members of the CME, BII, and Biodesign Administration to manage priorities of the program involving multifaceted projects, to deliver a menu of planned activities that broadens the reach of the BII. These activities include the coordination of an annual workshop/mini-symposium; an inter-university research-exchange program; assistance in preparation of annual reports; maintaining the BII website; acting as a liaison with advisory committees. You will also coordinate outreach with community colleges; and plan, manage, and execute weekly seminars and a journal-club series.


You will have contact with administrative offices requiring the use of business vocabulary, tact, discretion, and judgment. The ideal candidate must also work well independently in a fast-paced, flexible environment, provide a high level of service to both the university and external communities, be accountable for specific outcomes and make strong contributions both as an individual and as a team player. On-site presence in the CME working environment is required


Salary Range

$48,960 - $68,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Responsible for overall coordination and management of all activities to support Program KPIs.
  • Responsible for facilitating coordination of complex, inter-related activities, often from other projects, to ensure time, funding, and other Program specifications are being met.
  • Responsible for coordinating all Program events, such as seminars, workshops, and other meetings; working closely with the Biodesign Events Team to plan and carryout activities such as scheduling, preparation of materials, travel planning, arranging equipment and catering, and sending/managing invitations and RSVPs.
  • Oversee preparation of project materials and presentations, maintaining Program’s electronic database and website, and development/management of Program reporting.
  • Establish and maintain liaisons with faculty, staff, students, University administration, and the public. 
  • Oversees Program administrative budget activities; monitors expenditures to ensure the allocation of resources within the limitations of the budget.  
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned that support the strategic goals of the Program and respond directly to the BII executive committee.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field AND five years administrative/coordination experience; OR, Master's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND three years administrative/coordination experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Independently motivated with the ability to work autonomously as well part of a team in a fast-paced environment with diverse populations.
  • Experience in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing priorities.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills, attention to detail, critical thinking skills, customer service skills; some background in science would be beneficial. 
  • Experience in developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Experience with coordinating activities and reporting for federally funded research and/or education programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) and managing web-based materials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic project management and ability to maintain accurate project records and compile special reports.


Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer. Bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
