DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Public Involvement Specialist assist the Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project administration by performing work
related to right-of-way acquisition, soliciting input from the Community and landowners regarding P-MIP
construction and planning activities, and serving the P-MIP through various public involvement and educational
activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist identifying public issues, problems, needs and recommendations required strategies for public
involvement activities.Assist in implementing a Public Involvement Program related to the Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project.
Contact, organize, attend, and lead meetings with the GRIC Administration, Community members,
landowners and other groups to exchange information, data, and to collect feedback from concerned
individuals, including allottees.Conduct and lead educational outreach in the local Community and public schools related to P-MIP, water
rights, and the agricultural history of the Community.Prepare reports, appendices and other documentation related to public involvement activities, assist in
publication of project newsletter and other related publications.Recommend public involvement activities for the implementation of mitigation measures.Become familiar with project activities, position, technical issues and policies and relay to the Community at
public meetings and through publications, such as newsletters and others.Identify and understand the concerns of the Community and translate them to P-MIP administration for
decision-making.Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY:Knowledge and skills in interpersonal relationships to inform and educate allottees, Community members,
individuals, and groups as part of the planning that supports the design, and construction.
Knowledge of the history and traditions of the people of the Gila River Indian Community.
0 Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills to prepare required records and reports and
to present information related to the project and/or program.
0 Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals in an above average manner in order to understand and
explain technical and non-technical issues related to the project and/or program.
0 Have an understanding of the Community land base, water rights, and the Community.
0 Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Of?cials and the
general public, including meeting landowners one-on-one and the ability to lead landowners meetings.
0 Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Science, Education,
Communications, Public Relations, Public Media, or a closely related ?eld and a two (2) years experience in
public relations, journalism, communications, right-of-way acquisition, or closely related experience; Or
- Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Science, Education,
Communications, Public Relations, Public Media, or a closely related ?eld and a three (3) years experience
in public relations, journalism, communications, right-of-way acquisition, or closely related experience; Or0 High School diploma or GED and six (6) years of experience in public relations, journalism, communications,
right-of-way acquisition, or closely related experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
0 Required to pass a background check.
0 Required to obtain a Tribal Operators permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving
record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record
must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission
