R&D Director--Manufacturing

Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Director for product development works with the chief of manufacturing to help drive and lead calendarized and non-calendarized initiatives. Work closely with R&D, Marketing, Packaging, Legal and Global Brand Supply Chain teams to ensure all developmental milestones are achieved based on launch timelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage time and productivity of research scientists.
- Coordinates, manages and actively participates in programs for product development related activities, including development of new products, improvement to and maintenance of existing
products. - Provide estimated timelines, costs, regulatory concerns and other guidance in the design of new programs.
- Investigates new raw materials, second, or replacement sourcing of raw materials. Develops testing specifications for raw materials, process intermediates and finished goods.
- Interfaces and influences cross-functional teams as the Product Safety, Regulatory and Quality System expert in the development of new initiatives or operating practices
- Leads project teams to develop and implement new QA programs or procedure improvements needed to support business initiatives
- Leads quality or regulatory incident resolution activities for beverage and food products and operating practices
- Manages the development, implements and tracks effectiveness of QA programs including standards, procedures, tools and measures to assure that quality, product safety and regulatory requirements are met for ingredients, products, supplies and store operations
- Provides Product Safety and Regulatory consultation and support to cross functional teams in execution of business initiatives, feasibility assessment of product claims, acceptability of operating practices or in opening of new markets
- Review and approve labeling content, including primary display panels, ingredient statements, and nutrition facts panels
- Collaborate with suppliers to obtain accurate regulatory documents in a timely manner
- Gathers, analyzes and maintains product and technology trend information and conducts idea generation sessions to initiate creation of new food and beverage concepts and products
- Identifies project requirements and prepares project plans for approval, prioritization and allocation of technical and financial resources
- Organizes and directs work activities
Qualifications for research & development manager
- Assesses project requests and assignments to technical project managers
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Ability to design and conduct Quality System and facilitate audits
- Ability to manage multiple, complex projects and responsibilities in a fast-changing environment
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree or equivalent in a scientific discipline; and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Compensation: $140K - $155K
