Overall Job Objective

Position Summary & Duties Responsible

POSITION SUMMARY

Under close supervision of a recreation facility manager, assist recreation staff in all phases of recreational activities at the assigned community facility or in an assigned program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY

  1. Responsible for carrying out programs as designed for recreational sports/activities.
  2. Enforce rules of facility and of recreational activity.
  3. Assist instructors with classes/programs, supervising participants as necessary.
  4. Assist in scheduling activities and use of recreation facility.
  5. Assist with some maintenance duties and setting up areas for program use.
  6. Perform clerical duties as required.
  7. Transport program participants in multi-passenger vehicle as needed.

  Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED plus one year experience working with children preferably in the recreation field. Experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.
  2. Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver's license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver's license while employed in this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA'S):
  1. Ability to read, write and communicate with others in English.
  2. Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants and the general public.
  3. Ability to organize, control and instruct groups of individuals engaged in recreational activities.
  4. Ability to work under the conditions and with the equipment described.
Supplemental Information

SCREENING AND COMPLIANCE
The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

  1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
  3. Will receive skills training in basic first aid and CPR within 30 days.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  1. Works with direction and with select groups.
  2. Work performed both indoors (60%) and outdoors (40%).
  3. Worker will be exposed to natural weather conditions when working outdoors.
  4. Duties will be performed on sand, gravel, asphalt, grass, wood floors and tile, all of which may be wet or dry.
  5. Required to drive multi-passenger vehicles as needed.
  6. Required to work variable hours.
  7. Work hazards are those normally encountered in the instruction or participation in sports activities.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS
  1. Sports equipment such as used in baseball, basketball, football, soccer, tennis, etc., and various arts and crafts supplies are utilized in the performance of essential duties.
  2. Equipment and materials typically used in the performance of clerical duties include telephone, typewriter, copier and basic office supplies.
  3. Equipment typically used in performance of maintenance duties include mops, brooms, buffer and window cleaning supplies.
  4. Operates a County vehicle.
