Research Technologist, Senior Histology
Job Description
Under general direction, the Sr. Research Technologist in Histology will work with animal tissues, including tissue grossing/trimming, embedding, sectioning, automated and manual staining and other duties associated with production of high-quality microscope slides (including finding challenging targets in certain tissues/organs). Additional duties include laboratory equipment maintenance and preparing solutions. Work may also include administrative and/or lab management tasks and cross training with other institute pathology laboratories.
Bachelors degree in a related scientific discipline and 4 years of directly-related research experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Must be ASCP HT/HTL certified.
Candidate must have the ability to follow written standard operating procedures and the ability to document work in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Must also be able to work with chemicals such as Xylene, Alcohols, formalin, and other tissue fixatives.
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.
Relocation may be offered for this position.
Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment. Will operate standard laboratory equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator. May work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.

Salary is commensurate with experience + $500 sign-on bonus.
