Job Description
The Right-of-Way-Agent will be responsible for the coordination of housing development, infrastructure, and
right-of-way of utility easements. The Right-of-Way Agent will work with the districts, departments, local, state
and federal agencies in processing right-of-way for utility easements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Develop letters and consent forms for presentation to affected landowners, who may reside within or outside
the vicinity of the Community, regarding rights-of-way acquisition.
Assist in the development and maintenance of a computer database including information on landowners,
legal descriptions of allotments, and acreage needed for rights-of-way.
Review supporting documents to ensure accuracy and determine whether sufficient signatures have been
obtained to acquire rights-of-way.
Review plans for rights-of-way impacting tribal or allotted lands.
Make presentations on various projects dealing with rights-of-ways.
Coordinate with departmental staff, various tribal entities, BIA, state, county and federal agencies, as needed
and prepare legal descriptions for necessary land parcels.
Check easements for correct legal descriptions.
Coordinate with engineering and surveying staff regarding alignment issues, relocation of fences, utilities,
etc.
Research legal documents on previous rights-of-way granted to BIA, federal, state, and county agencies for
construction projects.
Verifies existing right-of-way as well as proposed right-of-way requirements.
Provide written reports to tribal departments, Committees, Community Council, BIA, and other entities on
rights-of-way projects as required.
Conduct public forums, small group meetings or one-on-one meetings with landowners and other interested
parties to present information on right-of-way issues.
Perform other duties as assigned.
