ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The Road Maintenance Worker performs a variety of road maintenance activities as part of regular maintenance

and repair throughout the Gila River Indian Community. This position performs skilled work on paved and

unpaved road sections, culverts under the roads, bridge repair, traffic control, and other duties as required. This

position work21.05 hours may vary depending on seasonal schedule, on-call rotation status, and emergencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Perform a variety of road maintenance and repair activities including but not limited to trash removal,

weed cutting and removal, repair and replacement of road signs and posts, cleaning of culverts and

drains.

• Repair and replace asphalt and concrete on roadways, shoulders, and sidewalks.
• Set up traffic control devices for construction jobs and during emergency situations; set up temporary

traffic control devices and flag traffic when needed.

• Replace reflector devices, mix, and apply striping on roads.
• Load and unload supplies and material; Delivers equipment and materials to job sites.
• May require employee to operate various small construction vehicles.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
• Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety procedures, policies and precautions.
• Knowledge of the operation of hand tools.
• Knowledge of methods, materials, procedures, and standard practices of street and right-of-way

maintenance, vegetation control and removal, concrete and asphalt repair, replacement, and removal.

• Knowledge of basic traffic control/barricade procedures.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, stand, walk, bend for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work in varied field conditions and weather.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions as related to work activities.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
