Job Description

The Safety Partner will be responsible for providing comprehensive safety, health and environmental oversight for facilities, housing and other business operations that support the university. This position will ensure timely review of construction plans, oversee ASU hot work program, oversee ASU's contractor orientation program, perform routine inspections, investigate accidents and injuries, and develop corrective and preventative action plans.

Essential Duties

·       Coordinates university hot work program.

·       Coordinates contractor safety program.

·       Reviews construction and renovation plans for compliance with EHS regulatory requirements and internal guidance prior to construction.

·       Serves as a member of the department emergency response team and participates in emergency drills and actual emergencies.

·       Responds to releases, accidents and incidents.

·       Conducts accident and incident investigations and recommends solutions and best practices by communicating verbally or in writing with the stakeholder.

·       Trains staff to comply with EHS regulatory requirements and best practices.

·       Communicates with customers on safety-related matters.

·       In collaboration with subject matter experts, reviews construction plans for new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with EHS regulatory requirements and internal policies and guidelines.

·       Reviews, interprets and evaluates compliance activities and policies to ensure safety and recommends and/or implements required safety changes.

·       Stays abreast of current and proposed changes in federal, state and industry regulations and requirements and internal policies.

·       Assists with developing programs to address regulatory and policy changes.

·       Provides EHS guidance to stakeholders.

·       Operates specialized equipment used to assess indoor air quality.

·       Leads special studies and project teams as required by supervisor.

·       Designs, develops and facilitates safety education, outreach and workshops for faculty, staff, and students in the use of departmental data management and processing tools.

·       Serves as liaison with subject matter experts in the development and facilitation of high impact training and communication materials and participates in logistics planning, communication and marketing.

·       Prepares reports for executive review.

·       Drives Arizona State University leased, owned or rented vehicles and carts to various ASU locations to perform work.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences and four (4) years of related experience Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

·       Experience in Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Program Management.

·       Experience with the following: developing, implementing and managing safety programs with hot work, construction and contractor safety, control of hazardous energy, confined space, aerial lifts, forklifts, fall protection, and hearing conservation.

·       Experience with hazardous materials management.

·       Experience conducting audits, advising stakeholders and conducting training.

·       Evidence of Certifications: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician(OHST), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT), or similar certification.

·       Evidence of completion of HazWOPER 40-hour training.
