OBJECTIVE AND POSITION SUMMARY
The School Counselor will be responsible for addressing the student population's mental health needs to improve behavior and coping skills, build resiliency, and increase the likelihood of success in support of CPLC's Community School Wellness program. Counseling services will be delivered in a culturally responsive manner relevant to the student population. The counselor provides activities to build on students' self-esteem, develop leadership skills to decrease participation in at-risk and disruptive behaviors and build upon the student's inherent strengths. The counselor is responsible for providing individual and group counseling sessions in collaboration with families and participating in data collection activities designed to monitor the progress and behavioral health outcomes of the student population.
The School Counselor will be the lead in designing and implementing our Community School Trauma Informed Care system through the Integration of a holistic, strength-based, student-centered framework. The School Counselor will be the expert on campus for Social-Emotional Learning based interventions and trainings to our community, to include parents, students and school staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
• Must be 21 years of age
• Master's Degree or Bachelors Degree in any Behavioral Health related field such as Social Work, Psychology, or Guidance/Counseling
• Three years of experience as a school counselor and SEL standards.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred but not required.
• Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License
• Must qualify for Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance at Level one.
• Able to operate standard office equipment and have word processing computer skills.
• Must be able to provide own transportation to and from clients' homes and/or other relevant organizations/agencies.
• Must have knowledge of evidence-based practices and maintain professional training on current evidence-based interventions.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and application of trauma-informed care.
• Adheres to the American School Counselor Association Ethical Standards for School Counselors.
• Be responsible for building community partnerships with internal and external social services to support student needs.
• Knowledge of Cenpatico Arizona (AZ Regional Behavioral Health Authority).
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Must maintain ethical standards and practices at all times.
• Must be able to participate as a team member and utilize supervision.
• Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Must be organized with the ability to take direction, prioritize tasks, and to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and exhibit mature judgment and emotional stability.
• Must be organized and able to work in a diverse, multi-cultural environment.
