Job Description

The Center for Health Information & Research (CHiR) seeks an innovative technical professional, experienced in working with health data and leading technical teams, to serve under the center director, manage a team of technical professionals, and provide administrative, analytic, and statistical support to health-related projects and initiatives conducted at CHiR. 

 

This position will not eligible for sponsorship.

 

Salary Range

$63,700 ‐ $98,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

·       Supervise technical staff, allocating workload, giving feedback and coaching regularly, onboarding new technical staff and developing a cross-training program.

·       Oversee data curation and the creation and maintenance of databases, warehouses and related programs, ensuring data quality and security.

·       Meet with clients to collect and review project specifications, develop service requests, and estimate technical effort & budget.

·       Apply knowledge of statistical analysis, database architecture, data mining and predictive modeling tools and techniques to work with large health data sets.

·       Create analytic data sets from source data and conduct statistical analysis to achieve project aims.

·       Use SAS Analytics Software as the primary programming language for conducting statistical analyses. 

·       Employ knowledge of or ability to learn a wide variety of other tools and languages for use in data visualizations, database software and secondary statistical analyses (e.g., SQL, R, Python, Tableau, etc.).

·       Review programming code and results to ensure the work of technical staff results in products that meet project requirements, timelines and budget and utilizes appropriate logic and analytical techniques.

·       Prepare, deliver and direct the preparation of reports, dashboards and presentations in a clear, accurate and user‐friendly manner.

·       Determine and implement appropriate automations and efficiencies to improve technical workflows.

·       Build rapport with data sharing partners for knowledge sharing and to expand in-house technical expertise.

·       Complete other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Information Systems, Business Information, Economics or a related field and three (3) years of related data analysis experience, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

·       Experience working with Medicaid and/or health claims and encounter data.

·       Experience conducting health research, including familiarity with procedure and diagnostic coding systems.

·       Experience using project management tools.

·       Understand and apply knowledge of HIPAA and other standards applicable to health data.

·       Ability to complete projects with evidence of problem solving and creative and critical thinking.

·       Use of software/computer equipment for extended periods of time

The Center for Health Information and Research (CHiR) is a community resource and partner for those seeking comprehensive health information, data analytics and reporting for public, private and research uses. We collect, process, and store health and social determinants data from a variety of sources in our HIPAA compliant repository. This data is then usable in data science, individually or linked with other data sources. CHiR specializes in several data science techniques: Inferential Modeling, Time Series analyses, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Cluster analyses and Social Network Analysis. CHiR's team of data scientists works with clients to provide the analytical results and answers to their most important health and health care questions. 

 

The College of Health Solutions (CHS) is dedicated to translating scientific advances into practical interventions to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business and application of diagnostics. CHS research programs encompass basic, discovery science, clinical trials, intervention science and measurement of health outcomes. CHS takes an interdisciplinary approach to address the complex systems that underpin health problems. The college is highly collaborative, transparent and team-oriented with an organizational structure that includes translational teams, affinity networks and academic programs to improve the health of people and communities. 

 

The current training programs include behavioral health, biomedical diagnostics, biomedical informatics, exercise science, health promotion, health sciences, kinesiology, medical studies, nutrition, population health, science of health care delivery, and speech and hearing science. Our programs are offered at ASU's Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic's campus in north Phoenix.
