Definition
Definition: Under general supervision of the Senior Services Manager - Vitality, the Senior Services Coordinator (Vitality) leads the planning, organization, and execution of senior-focused recreation programs, including wellness activities, caregiver programs, arts and crafts, educational workshops, and all independent, active senior travel. This position also mentors Recreation Coordinators I and II's on the Vitality team, manages high-level event logistics, and ensures culturally relevant, safe, and engaging experiences for seniors and adults with adaptive needs. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt. This is a driving position.

Examples of Tasks
1. Senior Travel Program Administration:
- Plans and implements local, regional, and national travel for active independent community seniors.
- Manages travel logistics: transportation, lodging, meals, cultural experiences, and accessibility.
- Conducts risk assessments; develops emergency and contingency plans.
- Oversees vendor contracts; ensures legal and financial compliance.
- Tracks budgets, expenditures, deposits, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Conducts pre- and post-trip evaluations to improve future life-enhancing experiences.
2. Event & Program Coordination:
- Provides hands-on support to the Vitality team and quality companionship to seniors.
- Greets participants, assists with sign-in, and supports participant needs throughout all Vitality programs.
- Leads the planning and execution of small to large-scale events and activities.
- Oversees décor, entertainment, catering, permits, volunteers, equipment, and safety.
- Supports on-site and off-site events; ensures successful setup, breakdown, and cleanup.
- Coordinates transportation for all outings; directly supports seniors during events.
- Ensures accessibility and meaningful engagement for participants.
3. Program Development & Organization:
- Design recreation initiatives integrating physical, social, and O'odham/Piipaash and Indigenous cultural elements.
- Introduces new program ideas, including arts and crafts, health workshops, and intergenerational projects.
- Assists the Senior Services Manager (Vitality) with limited supervision and mentors Vitality Recreation Coordinators I and II; provides leadership and training as needed.
- Assists the Senior Services Manager with managing work duties and schedules for event coverage.
- Supports coordination of meeting schedules, agendas, note-taking, and follow-ups.
4. Education & Training:
- Creates and delivers workshops on health and wellness for senior participants.
- Trains staff on preventive health practices and monitors participant progress.
- Designs or outsources culturally relevant and age-appropriate curricula (e.g., COVID-19, geriatrics, diabetes, nutrition, diabetes etc.).
- Evaluate training effectiveness and refine materials with feedback.
5. Administration & Operational Support:
- Coordinates compliance with Department, Tribal, Grant, and other applicable regulations.
- Prepares reports including program metrics, financial impact, and evaluations.
- Assists with operational planning and documentation for events and travel.
- Tracks and maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Assists in budget development, procurement, and vendor payment tracking.
- Collects data on participation, evaluations, incidents, and improvements.
- Maintains program and participant records in accordance with policies.
- Organizes contracts and service agreements.
6. Program Promotion & Community Engagement:
- Collaborates with PR & Media to create promotional materials (flyers, newsletters, and social media).
- Ensures advertising deadlines and materials are met.
- Serves as a liaison between Senior Services, the community, and external partners.
- Represents Senior Services at community meetings and regional events.
7. Miscellaneous: Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Senior Manager or the Senior Services Directors.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Other Characteristics:
- Knowledge of the culture, history, and government of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC)
- Knowledge of federal, state, SRPMIC, and local laws, codes, rules, regulations, and standards that apply to recreation facility maintenance and operations.
- Knowledge of a variety of recreational programs for seniors.
- Knowledge of procedures for developing and implementing a variety of recreational and related activities and programs for seniors through Community participation.
- Knowledge at a basic level of geriatrics and the aging process.
- Knowledge of a variety of assistive devices, including but not limited to a cane, walker, and wheelchair.
- Knowledge of how to care for senior participants in a safe and structured fashion.
- Skill organizing, promoting, and operating public events and recreation programs.
- Skill assessing client social and recreational needs.
- Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with SRPMIC co-workers, Community Members, seniors, families, other service providers, and the public.
- Skill operating a variety of standard office equipment, including photocopiers and personal computers, to fulfill job requirements.
- Skill planning, scheduling, and time management.
- Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to utilize the personal computer and related software, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office.
- Ability to maintain and promote safe practices for the operation of recreational equipment.
- Ability to develop, plan, organize, and implement recreation programs and activities.
- Ability to perform first aid and CPR techniques.
- Ability to work non-standard work hours.
- Ability to drive various SRPMIC vehicles, including the 15-passenger van.
Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience: Associates' degree in Recreation Management, Gerontology, Tourism, or related field required.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years of recreation planning experience, including at least two (2) years in senior travel program management.
- The ability to speak the Pima or Maricopa language preferred.
- Food Handler, CPR, and First Aid certifications required within 6 months of hire.

Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to perform the duties of this position satisfactorily will be considered.

Special Requirements
- May be required to work after normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Extensive travel required (15-20%) and must be available evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- May be required to work in various weather conditions.
- May be required to stand and/or walk for extended periods.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License
- Must pass an extensive background investigation, including fingerprinting, and have no prior convictions of offenses to children or elders.
