DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The Social Worker provides support for the Defense Services Office clients to help them complete court ordered

services and meet their legal requirements. In criminal cases, they will support defendants in meeting probation

requirements and help in developing skills to prevent recidivism. In dependency cases, the position assists parents

in reuniting with their children through compliance with court mandated requirements. The Social Worker will

partner with Gila River Health Care Behavioral Health and GRIC approved sober living facilities to connect

clients with needed services and treatment. This position acts a crucial link between clients, the DSO, and various

treatment providers both on and off the reservation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 Manage complex cases that may involve probation compliance, family reunification, substance abuse

treatment, and behavioral health needs.

 Advocate for clients within the legal and social services systems, with a focus on assisting them to meet

court ordered goals and access available resources specifically within the Gila River Indian Community

court system.

 Coordinate with DSO attorneys, tribal court officials, and outside treatment facilities, to support clients

through legal and treatment processes.

 Track client participation in services, monitor progress and provide regular updates to attorneys and other

relevant parties.

 Assist with completing referrals, applications, and intake steps for programs such as substance use

treatment, sober living, or parenting support.

 Work with clients to ensure they have a clear understanding and follow court orders to ensure successful

completion of probation or reunification plans.

 Keep accurate, confidential case records and complete all documentation in a timely manner.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

 Knowledge of tribal court procedures and legal processes.

 Knowledge of substance abuse and mental health treatment programs.

 Knowledge of social service resources and referral processes.
