Plant High Rowing Association supports middle and high school rowers from across Hillsborough County as a nonprofit club organization. The Crew of 100+ is comprised of dedicated rowers that have achieved multiple FSRA Scholastic State Championships and SRAA National Medals. We are actively recruiting for a Squad Coach to join our Crew in Tampa, FL.
As the Squad Coach you will perform on and off water instructional education and administrative duties under the direction of the Head Coach for Plant High Rowing Association. With general policy guidance from the Head Coach, you will make decisions to successfully achieve squad goals and objectives, and be accountable for the development of team policies and goals.
For the right candidate, this role has the potential to grow into the Assistant Director position. The Assistant Director will assist the head coach with all aspects of the Plant High Rowing Association program including but not limited to practice competition activities, player skill development, recruiting, directing and implementing plans for daily practices and competitions, and overall administrative tasks within the operation of the program. Must demonstrate integrity, leadership, a strong commitment and ability to motivate, teach, and counsel student-athletes.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Under the guidance of the Director and the overall training plan, develop and implement training routines to improve the technical skills, stamina, and endurance of athletes.
- Analyze athletes' performance during training and competitions to identify areas for improvement. Keep accurate records of athlete and squad goals, performance metrics and attendance.
- Be available to meet with the Director and Staff on a bi-weekly basis to discuss planning, directions and results.
- Maintain records of your squad plans, performances, lineups and other metrics, including attendance and share these records with the Director.
- Create comprehensive strategies for regattas, including lineups and tactics.
- Ensure the safety of athletes on land and water during training and competitions.
- Provide mentorship and motivational support to athletes, fostering a positive team environment.
- Assist in the ongoing maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities per the Maintenance and Repair Schedule.
- Assist with Injury tracking and prevention.
- Enforce all rules and regulations of the program and relevant governing bodies.
- Attend all regularly scheduled practices, competitions, fundraisers and monthly parent meetings.
Potential Additional Responsibilities (Assistant Director):
- Acts as supervisor/head coach representative in the absence of the head coach. Makes independent decisions, using sound judgment, while acting in the best interests of the student-athletes and the program at all times.
- Assists head coach and is fully involved in the organization and total well being of the athletic program.
- Responsible for ensuring Coach Compliance including but not limited to tracking completion of CPR/First Aid/ AED, Safesport and USRowing certifications.
- Responsible for ensuring Athlete Compliance including but not limited to collecting and tracking completion of all PHRA team forms, USRowing waivers, and FSRA and SRAA Clearance items, Injury and Health documentation.
- Communicate with Coaches and Parents as needed to address attendance issues in all squads.
- Assist head coach with regatta hosting responsibilities including but not limited to: acting as liaison to volunteers from other teams, communicating and tracking roles and assisting to get positions filled; tracking Waiver Compliance from attending teams, including PHRA; and keeping Athlete Medical Releases.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of rowing techniques, strategies, and training methods.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate athletes to improve their performance.
Education and Experience:
- Previous experience as a Rowing Coach or a significant background in competitive rowing required.
- USRowing Coaching Level 1 required, Level 2 preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Safesport Certification required.
- Background check required.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods standing and moving during practices and regattas.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
Travel Required:
- Typically 2-3 travel regattas per season
