Job Description
The Student Advisor provides guidance and career advisement to scholarship recipients and applicants; maintains
contact with student to ensure funding of students is successful; conducts interviews, screening and assessment
of Gila River Indian Community applicants and scholarship recipients. The Student Advisor also assesses
Financial Aid budgets submitted by educational institutions; assesses student files and transcripts to ensure
students uphold policy and responsibility to the scholarship.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Develop, maintain and electronically update student files in a database for Federal, Higher Education and
Vocational Programs while adhering to the Privacy Act.
Provides information on major and university requirements, resources, and enrollment process.
Work collaboratively with the university or college student is attending.
Follow-up on students by calling or emailing the student or institution they are attending.
Screen and maintain required documentation to ensure GRIC scholarship policy is followed.
Evaluate student capabilities and guide them on curriculum that will aid in a successful education as well as
informing the student of the Financial Aid Application Process.
Perform interviewing, screening and assessment of Gila River Indian Community applicants for Scholarships,
Employment Assistance and Higher Education Programs.
Participates in recruitment of new students and retention of current students.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Knowledge of the educational and social problems and strengths of Native Americans.
Knowledge of various educational institutions and programs.
Knowledge of student development
Knowledge of available financial aid resources.
