Job Description

OBJECTIVE AND POSITION SUMMARY

The Student Transportation driver will primarily support the day-to-day student transportation and student resource needs, including review of routing, troubleshooting operational issues, and assisting with the initial set up of routes/day-to-day transportation needs. The driver will serve as a van driver to transport students safely and efficiently to and from school and to extracurricular activities. The priority focus of this position is to increase student attendance and increase accessibility to community resources and activities.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Assist with the initial set-up of van routes and adjust routes based on actual registration.

2. Perform daily student transportation needs, including after-school activity and athletic support.

3. Ensure all student pick-ups and drop-offs are conducted on the timeline agreed upon and within the safety parameters specified by the district.

4. Document and communicate with school principals/district admin any routing delays.

5. Be on-call for daily van route issues from the early morning route to the last route of the day. This may require flexible work hours depending on the time of year and weather conditions.

6. Collect all relevant transportation/event data using the school transportation application platform and other supporting software programs.

7. Working collectively with school staff to ensure proper coordination of field trips and events.

8. Support school attendance initiatives and conduct home visits for chronically absent students.

9. Adhere to all school/state policies.

10. Perform vans' safety/cleanliness and maintenance and work with other drivers to ensure safety/cleanliness standards are achieved.

11. Communicate with the district administrators and site principal and Lead Transportation Liaison regarding operational matters impacting district transportation.

12. Perform other duties as assigned by district personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

• High school diploma

• Experience working in a school setting

• The liaison is required to hold a valid driver's license & IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

• Competence in using technologies, including IPADs, computers, and camera technology and associated computer software applications

• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions

• Ability to assess situations for safety concerns

• Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions regarding the safety and welfare of students as it relates to the transportation system

• Ability to perform assigned duties and tasks with a minimum direction

• Ability to maintain effective public, student, and co-worker relationships

• Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including students, parents, drivers, teachers, administration, and members of the community

• Ability to speak, write, read, and understand English

• Fluency in a second language, preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Requires vision and hearing and the ability to speak, write, print, and draw. Work in the job involves sitting and using computer peripherals for extended periods of time. Requires moving from one location to another. Other physical activity includes reaching, bending, holding, grasping, and lifting heavy objects. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performing of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability is required.
