Job Description

OBJECTIVE AND POSITION SUMMARY

The job of the short-term or long-term Substitute Teacher is to supervise the classroom and teach the lesson left by an absent teacher or create lesson plans in correlation with the AZ standards for a long-term assignment. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.

2. Serves as a substitute teacher for assigned campus and class(es).

3. Teaches provided lesson plans / create lesson plans if needed.

4. Maintain a functioning classroom

5. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

6. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.

7. Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.

8. Maintains a neat and orderly classroom. Straightens chairs, tables, clears white board, etc.

9. Ensures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom.

10. Adheres to emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.

11. Adheres to all school policies, procedures and regulations.

12. Differentiate lesson plans for a variety of learners.

13. Maintain grade books and meet reporting deadlines. Support teacher grading for long term in house subbing assignments.

14. Communicate with families regarding student academics and behavior if needed in a long-term assignment.

15. Communicate professionally with peers, supervisors, parents, and students.

16. Attend student Individualized Education Plan meetings as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Bachelors Degree (Preferred)
  • IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Bilingual is Spanish (Preferred)
  • Teaching experience
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions
  • Valid Arizona Teacher Certificate or Substitute Certificate (Preferred)

Effective January 3, 2022, all CPLC Employees and all Service Providers, are required to be Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19. Newly hired employees, who are not Fully Vaccinated at the time of hire, are expected to begin a vaccination series immediately upon hire.
