Job Description

Summary:

The Supplier Quality Lead (SQL) will work with Production and Engineering to review Engineering and Manufacturing specifications, monitor materials for any defects, and resolve quality issues. The SQL is responsible for ensuring that suppliers meet quality standards, develop and implement best practices that emphasize defect prevention, reduce variation and waste and provide for continuous improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with Production to develop and conduct internal supplier test procedures
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practices for supplier quality, including policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance
  • Manage the root cause analysis and corrective actions process of supplier quality issues
  • Visit vendor facilities and observe the manufacturing environment to review and assess their quality procedures, performing root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions for supplier quality issues
  • Carry-out supplier validation audits, with supplier support and supplier advanced product quality planning (APQP)
  • Support Purchasing in the supplier approval process
  • Promote the use of techniques for continuous improvement such as Lean, Six-Sigma, Measurement System Analysis and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
  • Monitor and manage Supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Ensure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality Management System (TS16949/ISO9001)
  • Keep up with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends that concern product quality
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills and Experience Levels

  • Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree is preferred, or commensurate qualifications
  • Significant experience in a high volume manufacturing environment, preferably automotive
  • Experience with manufacturing and production processes and engineering principles
  • Experience in Quality Assurance
  • Six Sigma/Lean skills
  • Experience in dealing with customers and suppliers
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous
