DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The Systems Engineer assists in the oversight of operations of secure and highly available computing platforms,

servers, and networks. The Systems Engineer will participate in the design, installation, configuration, testing,

maintenance, upgrading, and continuous improvement of Gila River Indian Community’s IT Infrastructure to

include PC/server operating systems, networks, and related utilities and hardware. This position also maintains

the ongoing reliability, performance and support of the infrastructure. This includes monitoring the operating

environments; responding to incidents, problems, planning for growth and also responsible for the overall

operation and maintenance of the data center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnoses and resolves complex hardware, software and connectivity problems for

multiple systems or applications of varying complexity with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control,

integrity, and accessibility.

  • Monitoring of IT Infrastructure: Monitors system-operating capacity in terms of (e.g., disk space, storage,

and CPU utilization). Monitors hardware/software activities and resources utilization for capacity planning.

The environment monitored consists of the following technologies:

o Windows, Linux and Unix servers (both physical and virtual)

o Microsoft Exchange Systems

o Infrastructure Storage resources

o SQL Database technology platforms

  • Documentation: Develops, maintains, recommends, documents, and supports tools and back-end systems.

o Documents, monitors, reports, and manage the resolution of systemic issues.

o Documents new or modified functions, modules, and test activities/results.

o Writes reviews and/or maintains technical documentation for product environments.

o Ensures documentation is developed and maintained.

o Assists in developing documentation for new infrastructure solutions.

  • Perform other related duties as required.
