Teacher - Reading Recovery (Effective 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR)
Job Description
SUMMARY
Conduct short-term early intervention for at-risk first graders in need of literacy support. Develop and deliver 1:1 individualized thirty minute literacy lessons (maximum of four students), on a daily basis, for half a day, secure ample time to prepare daily lesson plans per student and work with a first grade classroom by providing in-class modeling of literacy strategies with whole group, small group and/or individuals for a portion of the remainder of the day. Reading Recovery teacher training includes 4 days of an assessment class in addition to a once a week three hour session for the duration of the school year. Teaching children who struggle with literacy learning is very challenging, and teachers selected for training must be experienced and effective teachers of young children. Teachers need to be open to new learning and ready to continuously reflect, problem solve, and adjust their teaching to ensure the success for young struggling readers. Teachers in training will not be eligible for paid compensation for any training hours outside of contract time. Teachers will earn eight university credits from St. Marys College, Oakland, California, upon completion of all requirements for Reading Recovery certification at the end of the school year.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Appropriate Arizona Teaching Certificate
Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Three (3) years teaching experience with primary age children
Certain endorsement/approved area(s) may be required for highly qualified/appropriately certified purposes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
Bilingual education endorsement
Reading endorsement
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE
Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.

FTE: 1.0 7.5 hours per day
Work Calendar: 9.5 month
Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.

Probationary Contracts will be issued for any contingent Certifications, Positions that are 0.6 FTE or less, and certified employees within their first three years with the District.
