Position Function Summary:

This position is responsible for the overall health, safety, nurturing and quality of care and education for toddlers; 18-36 months of age enrolled in the program. Will plan, prepare, and develop classroom curriculum; and interact with children in activities to promote social, physical, and cognitive growth appropriate to the children's developmental stages. All activities and interactions will be in conformance with all federal, state and local regulations, standards, policies, procedures and best practices.

  • Maintains a positive, calm attitude and a pleasant, soothing voice, and models this attitude and voice for parents and others working or volunteering in the program.
  • Implements the developmental assessment for each child to determine the child's strengths and areas in which each child may need assistance.
  • Plans individualized activities based on developmental assessments.
  • Plans and prepares materials and supplies in advance for activities.
  • Interacts with children in activities to promote social and intellectual growth appropriate to the child's developmental stages at all times
  • Conducts daily learning environment health and safety inspections
  • Plans, prepares and develops lesson plans, activity evaluations, IEP's, observations, report of contacts, referrals and other documentation required by the program, i.e. in-kind, attendance, inventory, data entry.
  • Implements home visits and parent conferences at the convenience of the parent.
  • Shares information about the child and family with the parents.
  • Supervises children during all activities, as define in the program's child guidance policy/procedures.
  • Observes children to detect signs of illness, injury, issues, developmental, child abuse or child neglect and immediate report to teacher for follow-up.
  • Works cooperatively with the teacher assistant as a team to encourage the active participation of all parents in the program.
  • Leads selected activities during designated parts of the class-day on a periodic basis.
  • Attends all training opportunities and all staff meetings provided and scheduled.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Must provide accurate and timely documentation, as needed.
  • Adheres to all program and funding regulations, as well as agency and program policies and procedures and written service plans.

    Fair Labor Standards Act Provisions:

    This position is non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is subject to the Agency's policies and procedures pertaining to overtime hours and premium pay.

    Independence of Action: Supervision Received:

    The Preschool Teacher works under general supervision of the Center Manager or Lead Teacher.

    Supervision Exercised:

    The Preschool Teacher is responsible for their own work and has no supervisory authority or responsibility.

    Coordination and Cooperation with Internal and External Parties:

    Internal:

    Responds to requests for information from all levels of management.

    External:

    Incumbent has a low level of contact with external parties, inclusive of Board members, vendors and government agencies.

    Position Qualifications and Requirements:

    Education and Experience:

    Required:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; Minimum of Child Development Associate (CDA) or New Mexico Child Development Certificate.
    • Three (3) year of experience in an early childhood program serving preschool children.

    Certification, Licenses and Registrations:
    • Some staff members may be required to maintain a current New Mexico driver's license, an insurable driving record, and provide proof of current liability insurance meeting or exceeding State-required minimum coverages.


    Effective January 3, 2022, all CPLC Employees and all Service Providers, are required to be Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19.
