WASTEWATER PLANT OPERATOR I
Job Description
The Wastewater Plant Operator I is an entry-level position in wastewater lagoon aeration treatment operations.
Work is routine and involves the basic operation, maintenance and control at the Wastewater Lagoon Aeration
Treatment facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Operate and maintain activities of wastewater lagoon aeration treatment facilities throughout the Gila River
Indian Community.
Perform operation and maintenance of the wastewater lagoon aeration treatment, facilities, ground
maintenance, and building maintenance.
Attend training programs to conduct regular work in areas of safety certification within assigned areas of
wastewater treatment.
Suggest ideas in order to improve operational efficiency in wastewater systems and lagoon aeration treatment
operations.
Ensure safe operation of all equipment systems and facilities.
Follow all applicable safety standards and practices, including work-zone safety, Blue Stake, personal
protective equipment, confined space entry, lockout-tagout procedures, and hazard communications as
mandated by OSHA and other agencies.
Attend meetings as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Working knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of wastewater lagoon aeration treatment
facilities machinery and equipment, and of the processes involved in the treatment and disposal of wastewater.
Mechanical aptitude in the use of hand tools.
Ability to follow standardized procedures for operation, maintenance, and repair of utility systems; sample
water and wastewater; maintain current data files; prepare reports.
