Job Title: Youth Minister Status: Part time
Exemption Status: Non-exempt Salary Grade: 20
Department/Location: Saint Kateri Tekakwitha - Tucson, AZ
Primary Function: Under the direction of the Pastor, is responsible for assisting in the management of the Youth Ministry program for a Parish. The employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, "Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received." (Eph. 4:1)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this Ministerial Position:
- Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the Diocese by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The teacher may not espouse, in word or deed, any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
- Assist in overseeing youth ministry and assist in directing its mission and vision.
- Provide leadership and input to the Pastor in developing strategies for spiritual growth for our youth.
- With approval and guidance of the pastor, educate and inform the congregation and its youth of the intentions and direction of its youth ministry.
- Encourage and nurture youth and their families in the Catholic understanding and tradition of Christian living; through ministry, help parents nurture the faith of their children.
- Provide a high-energy, spirit filled environment for youth; be flexible with commitment and energy devoted to youth.
- Explore ways to keep youth and their families involved in their faith and church life (retreats, service projects and youth social gatherings)
- Work cooperatively with other churches in the diocese and their youth leaders to develop inter-church youth ministry events.
- Organize fundraisers to build accountability and community between youth.
- Foster good communications keeping all well-informed through internet, mailings, personal calls, school visits, bulletins, and pulpit announcements.
- Instill church values by meeting with Junior and Senior High school groups.
- Assist with all youth-related activities keeping within approved budget; render financial and other reports as requested by the pastor.
- At all times, ensure there is compliance with the diocesan safe environment program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal education and office environment.
Required Activities: Walking; sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling; hearing; carrying; and keyboarding.
Basic Qualifications:
- A working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church. If a baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
- Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, and public speaking and presentation skills.
- Punctuality is a must, with an ability to travel locally as required; weekend work may be required.

- Must have excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player.
- Proficiency with information technology; Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
- Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance
Education and Experience:
- A bachelors degree in business or public administration or a related field or equivalent experience
- At least one years experience in a Catholic environment as a youth minister
Other/Preferred Skills:
- Bi-lingual, Spanish-English is preferred.
- Level 1 Catechetical training
